I make soup every week because it's a quick and easy lunch. It's packed with nutrition and I don't have to spend time thinking about what to eat for lunch. I was making soup with chicken, vegetable or beef regular broth, but switched to using chicken or beef bone broth. It is a little more expensive depending on the brand, but has more nutrients than regular broth. It helps the body easily absorb calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon and sulphur. Bone broth contains collagen, which provides the body with amino acids. Collagen helps improve joint health and may help improve osteoarthritis. The gelatin in bone broth helps seal the gut lining, improving nutrient absorption and helping prevent leaky gut where particles cross over into the blood stream causing illness.
When bone broth is cooked, tendons and ligaments break down which releases chondroitin and glucosamine sulphates. They are also good in improving joint health.
Bone broth is easy to make yourself in a slow cooker with water and bones from organic grass fed beef or chicken. I usually buy it from the grocery store though. Make sure to read the ingredient labels. Some contain sugar and other ingredients I wouldn't want in a broth.
Challenge:
Switching from regular broth to bone broth is a quick and easy swap to add more nutrients to your diet, so find a brand you like and give it a try the next time you make soup or just heat it up and drink it from a cup.
