Organic vs. Natural Cereal Report Cornucopia

A new report came out yesterday. It's all about the best cereal brands to choose.
For the newbie healthy eater, any package which displays the words "Natural" seems like a good choice. Wrong. Natural is just a word used by the manufacturer. It has no bearing on what's really inside the package. There are no federal regulations regarding the use of "natural" on food packages.
The use of the word "organic", on the other hand, is, for the most part, regulated. I've read articles where some manufacturers are allowed to use "organic" even though they don't fully comply. Despite that, "organic" labeling is the way to go. Federal law requires that "organic" products not contain pesticides, genetically engineered ingredients (GMO's), fungicides and any other toxic ingredients.

The grain/cereal report by Cornucopia.org mentions a few things I didn't know:

Cascadian Farm and Kashi are owned by General Mills
Back to Nature is owned by Kraft

Some companies that used to be mainly organic are now reverting to conventional ingredients, such as Annie's Homegrown.
Food For Life, Grandy Oats, Nature's Path are 100% organic.

Here is a quick reference to Cornucopia's cereal scorecard on how each cereal brand ranked.
Based on that, I will only be buying Kashi's organic strawberry cereal
as that is certified organic. I will also be checking out Nature's Path products and won't be buying Back to Nature crackers anymore, unless they are organic.

Genetically engineered ingredients use biotechnology to alter the DNA of a crop using bacteria, viruses, antibiotics, etc. to make them resistant to herbicides. Studies on the impact to humans is very limited. Take a look around at the people you know. I bet a lot are getting sick. A lot of these sicknesses are due to environmental factors, but the majority are probably due to the foods they eat. Humans have become lab rats for the food industry. The sad thing is the majority of people don't know what's in the food they eat and a lot that do know don't care.
The only reason I found out about GMO's is because I found out I have high blood sugar and started reading about food/nutrition/health. All the people I know think I'm nuts for wanting to eat healthier. They would much rather eat processed foods, be sick and buy medication.
If you are one of the ones that does care, then organic is the way to go, not natural.
